Educators

MoCo CAP succeeds when MCPS educators integrate career conversations into everyday instruction. The Division of Career and Postsecondary Partnerships and Career Advising (DCPPCA) leads the Career Advising Champions initiative, with Champion Teams across disciplines supported by MCPS Cluster Leads and MoCo CAP Career Advising Coaches.

Champion Teams amplify Career Coaches by weaving RIASEC themes and interest-based conversations into ongoing instruction, following up on one-on-one and small-group advising. They meet regularly with their MoCo CAP Career Coach to co-design activities, share feedback, and reinforce shared RIASEC language with students in grades 6–12. Champion Teams also connect classroom learning to Industry Engagement opportunities, so students experience a consistent “college, career, and community” culture.

Cluster Leads support Coaches by helping with student access, coordinating activities that require parent permission, and assisting with event logistics.

Role of the MoCo CAP Career Advising Champion Team

  • Integrate RIASEC themes in lessons and follow up on coaching conversations
  • Coordinate with your MoCo CAP Career Coach on activities and events
  • Surface student interests and help connect them to exploration opportunities
